Did your TV show get an Emmy nod?
Submitted by Melissa Gilman on July 18, 2008 - 9:30am.If you haven't caught them yet TiVo these shows: "Damages" on FX, "Mad Men," "The Tudors," and "Dexter" on Showtime and "Breaking Bad" on AMC. They all received well-deserved Emmy nominations this week. Especially good is the 60s era "Mad Men" and the can't-look-away-from-the-train-wreck "Breaking Bad." High school chemistry teacher Walter White is a tense guy with a pregnant wife and a son with cerebral palsy. When Walt's diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, he cracks up and stars to cook meth to support his family.

Woman walks into a TJ Maxx...
Submitted by Melissa Gilman on July 16, 2008 - 10:57pm.So I was shopping for a dress to wear to a wedding. Limited time and dread of seeing my reflection in the mirror had me sweating. Found a sort of cute 60s style dress and a royal blue shrug. But when I went to check out I noticed my sweater, which had been tied around my waist, was missing. After leaving my info with Lost and Found I jumped into line to check out. But then I checked the time and I was running late for an appointment. I dropped the dress and shrug and ran out of TJ Maxx with no wedding attire and no sweater. There is no moral to this story.

The Greatest Bestest Movie Possibly Ever
Submitted by Adam Pulchinski on July 15, 2008 - 6:53pm.
I was going to start posting every Tuesday and Friday and I was on a roll. Then... I moved. I was without internet (gasp!) and when it returned I was preoccupied with other things.
Now, I'm going to be going on vacation (yes!) and won't be able to post Friday. That does not matter though. There is nothing I could write about that eclipses the experience being unleashed upon the movie going public, nay, the culture, this Friday.

A new AP?
Submitted by Rob Lawson on July 14, 2008 - 4:22pm.The new head of the Associated Press' Washington Bureau is apparently trying to make a change to the way AP writes their stories.
Ron Fournier recently replaced Sandy Johnson as Bureau head. But Sandy said she hopes that he doesn't destroy it. AP has long been the trusted wire that delivered fast, balanced content. Now that Fournier has taken over, he is changing up the rules a bit, promoting a first-person style of reporting. It is definitely being criticized for crossing the opinion line that divides formal news writing with opinionated editorial writing.

Sound Off: The Wedding Singers
Submitted by BakerBlog on July 11, 2008 - 3:34pm.My husband and I have performed at a lot of weddings over the years. In fact we just sang in a wedding over the 4th of July weekend at the Lutsen Ski Resort. On the way to the wedding, we discussed the many different songs we’ve sung for wedding ceremonies, either together or apart, throughout our lives. The range of musical tastes for weddings is amazing. We’ve sung songs from Stryper to Madonna and everything in between. We shared a few memories from our solo wedding singing days and compiled a list of songs that we’ve sung together and/or apart.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Submitted by Melissa Gilman on July 9, 2008 - 9:41am.I've been thinking about getting a dog for several years. But it seems like the expectations are so high. I think feeding, walking, petting and playing are adequate verbs for pet ownership. I already have a child and don't want a four-legged one. I'd treat the animal like a beloved pet, but a pet all the same. Am I a monster?
