I felt so crummy this week that putting on makeup seemed silly. But I won't be singing "I Feel Pretty" anytime soon. You get used to seeing yourself a certain way, say, without undereye circles and with visible eyebrows. So when I go nude, facially speaking, I feel I look less than ideal. It makes me wonder: If a dab of lipstick and a sweep of mascara make me look bright-eyed, wouldn't it do the same for my male coworkers?

It tiptoed into my immune system with little warning, striking on a sunny Monday afternoon. The flu or some disgusting cousin of it, knocked me out and left me lying in bed listening to traffic, blinds being blown against the window and incessant cooing from a pair of doves. Even when I heard the pitter patter of raindrops I didn't have enough energy to go outside and roll up my car windows. I'm on the Sprite and Saltines diet and looking for a magic cure. Any ideas for a rapid recovery?

My family saw the children's musical group The Wiggles in Council Bluffs, Iowa last week and loved the show. My two-year-old was a little nervous at the start of the show. But she started jumping up and down when the foursome drove on stage singing "Big Red Car," seated in their little red car.

She sang along and pointed at and named several of the costumed characters, including Henry the Octopus. Ballet dancers, acrobats and little skits were woven into the song set, which included one my daughter's favorites, "Rock-a-bye Your Bear."

Yes, friends, my family is going to drive nearly 400 miles to watch The Wiggles live in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I think I'm excited and mortified.

I saw The Pixies play at First Ave. when I was 14 or 15 years old. I've rocked to Nirvana, Shonen Knife, Beastie Boys, PJ Harvey, The Cure, U2, Frank Black, Nine Inch Nails... I've seen lots of cool bands perform. But that was pre-motherhood.

Now my two-year-old and her parents listen to musicians who rock the mic with songs like "Head, Shoulders..." and "Do the Monkey."
