Sound Off: The Wedding Singers
Submitted by BakerBlog on July 11, 2008 - 3:34pm.My husband and I have performed at a lot of weddings over the years. In fact we just sang in a wedding over the 4th of July weekend at the Lutsen Ski Resort. On the way to the wedding, we discussed the many different songs we’ve sung for wedding ceremonies, either together or apart, throughout our lives. The range of musical tastes for weddings is amazing. We’ve sung songs from Stryper to Madonna and everything in between. We shared a few memories from our solo wedding singing days and compiled a list of songs that we’ve sung together and/or apart.

Coldplay has postponed their planned July 8 concert at the Xcel Energy Center; the new date is Nov. 14 (brrrrrrr).
Here's the announcement on the band's Web site:

Sound Off: Rock of ages
Submitted by BakerBlog on June 5, 2008 - 12:50pm.Is there a future for aging rock stars besides bingo on Sunday? Who should hang it up? Who still has the moves?
Reunion tours are all the rage anymore – just ask the artists-formerly-known-as-bands raking in the cash each summer from fans willing to fork it over to relive the glory of days gone by. The Police, The Who, Van Halen, Stone Temple Pilots and New Kids on the Block are just some of the most recent groups to bury the hatchet and climb back into the old tour bus (or several personal tour buses, as the case may be).

Summer + Music = Happiness
Submitted by Melissa Gilman on May 16, 2008 - 10:32am.Summer music is that sticky stuff that gets in your head and makes you feel young and carefree, which is the same as feeling alive. It's music that says, "Quit your job and take a road trip to some place exotic like Guadalajara." My summer album is going to be the eponymously named Vampire Weekend. The music is cute and catchy and just makes me feel happy - which is my definition of great summer music. Check out their videos for A-Punk and Mansard Roof. You might not like Vampire Weekend but I bet you have your own summer music favorites.

I NEED to go to Star Party
Submitted by LoriC on May 6, 2008 - 12:34pm.If someone knows how I can get tickets to KDWB's Star Party without either having to exacerbate the tendinitis in my dialing thumb or paying $150 for these "free" tickets on Craigslist, let me know.
I actually got through and got the correct answers for one contest this morning. They took my name, asked me for the answers, told me they were correct, then promptly put me on hold and then came back and said they already got a winner. Huh? Then why did they bother with me?

Sound Off: Minnesota music
Submitted by BakerBlog on April 24, 2008 - 12:52pm.Minnesota is arguably as melodious as any state in the union. Over the years, it has produced almost as many great musicians and bands as it has lakes – and the variety is as diverse as the weather.

Sound Off: What's Your Theme Song?
Submitted by BakerBlog on April 3, 2008 - 10:18am.Have you ever heard of giving yourself a theme song? I remember seeing an episode of Ally McBeal where her therapist suggests that she give herself a theme song. She was to play that song in her head when she felt down or her self-confidence dipped (I think Ally's was "Tell Him" by The Exciters). Your theme song should be a song that gives you a lift as you walk down the street, a song that makes you feel happy, confident and in control. This all got me to thinking: If I had a theme song, what would it be?

Road trip to see The Wiggles
Submitted by Melissa Gilman on March 31, 2008 - 2:16pm.Road trip!
To Iowa.
To see The Wiggles?
Yes, friends, my family is going to drive nearly 400 miles to watch The Wiggles live in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I think I'm excited and mortified.
I saw The Pixies play at First Ave. when I was 14 or 15 years old. I've rocked to Nirvana, Shonen Knife, Beastie Boys, PJ Harvey, The Cure, U2, Frank Black, Nine Inch Nails... I've seen lots of cool bands perform. But that was pre-motherhood.
Now my two-year-old and her parents listen to musicians who rock the mic with songs like "Head, Shoulders..." and "Do the Monkey."
