"All I Ask of You" was sung

"All I Ask of You" was sung at my wedding in 1994 - I never heard it sung at a wedding before mine or since. It is a beautiful song - I agree on the lyrics - and our vocalists definitely pulled it off. I chose it because my not-quite-husband and I saw "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway (as a gift from my previous employer) and, even though he hated the thought of sitting through an opera he really enjoyed the performance. It had significance to us then and fit my "I want something different sung at my wedding" wishes. I was nervous asking my hometown priest if my musical selections were OK (there was a long history of only having "church" music in weddings at my church) but he didn't raise an eyebrow - or his collar!

Our male vocalist, a high school friend of my husband's and currently a junior high choir teacher, sang "The Lord's Prayer" and I swear, raised the roof of my very old church. I still get chills today thinking about how moving the arrangement and his delivery were. In fact, he so impressed our guests that he was asked to sing at the weddings of my sister, my brother and my cousin who were married during the year following our ceremony.

I also had "Sunrise, Sunset"

I also had "Sunrise, Sunset" sung at my wedding, and it was wonderful. My siblings and I grew up with songs from all the big musicals, so it was a good fit. I also had my vocalists sing "One Hand, One Heart" from West Side Story.
One of most beautiful songs I've ever heard at a wedding was one my daughter and a friend sang, the duet "All I Ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera. The lyrics are very fitting, and it's an awesome choice if you have the voices to pull it off.
My daughter's also sung Chris Tomlin's version of "Amazing Grace." The arrangement is so beautiful that it's a good choice even though it's not your standard wedding fare.

My husband and I walked out

My husband and I walked out of church to Vivaldi's Spring from the Four Seasons. Not only do I love the music, I found it fitting starting our new life together with a song entitled "Spring".
Of course we also had the ever-popular Canon in D, The Wedding Song (There is Love) and Keeper of the Stars.

I absolutely adored my fifth-grade teacher and when she got married midway through the school year I was so over the top to find out that I was one of the invited guests!

It was a huge Polish-Catholic wedding in the most gorgeous cathedral I had ever been inside in all 10 years of my life. One of the songs sung at the wedding was "Sunrise, Sunset" from "Fiddler on the Roof." It was the first time I had ever heard it and I loved it (still do).

I sang at the wedding of my boss' daughter, whom I hardly knew, one summer when I worked in a state park -- didn't really seem like I could say no. Anyway, on the upside, the ceremony was only 22 minutes long. The downside? I was asked to sing three songs -- all of them overly earnest and syrupy country love songs -- that accounted for at least half of the ceremony. My payment for being "the wedding singer"? An engraved money clip holding nothing but air.

I'm not bitter about it; I'm just saying, if you're going to give your wedding singer "a gift" for his or her services, it ought to be something besides an empty money clip or an empty wallet (I've also received that one for singing in a wedding). Either pay them, give them a token gift or just say thanks. But don't give them something that says, "Hey, I was thinking about paying you, but decided to give you something that holds money instead."

I also made my "grand entrace" to Canon in D performed on the church organ. We didn't have any "popular" music during the ceremony - it was not allowed by the church. My cousin performed the song "Eagle's Wings" and the congregation mumbled through "Let all Things Now Living" during our exit.

We had Silver and Gold by Neil Young at our wedding. I thought it was the most beautiful part of the ceremony. The two guys that performed it were amazing. It was perfect! - Thanks, Tom and Derek!

Sound Off: The Wedding Singers

My husband and I have performed at a lot of weddings over the years. In fact we just sang in a wedding over the 4th of July weekend at the Lutsen Ski Resort. On the way to the wedding, we discussed the many different songs we’ve sung for wedding ceremonies, either together or apart, throughout our lives. The range of musical tastes for weddings is amazing. We’ve sung songs from Stryper to Madonna and everything in between. We shared a few memories from our solo wedding singing days and compiled a list of songs that we’ve sung together and/or apart.
