You're right, Mark. With Target, Rainbow, Culvers, DQ, and soon Kohl's on Hwy. 41 I have to make a point to visit downtown Chaska. Good thing the library, Walgreens, Chaska Farm and Garden and the Rex movie theater are nice downtown attractions.

I love the traditional

I love the traditional downtown, with the city park and old buildings. But I fear for its future, given the commercialization of Chaska farther north on Hwy. 41.

I like the city's proximity

I like the city's proximity to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, the bakery, the pretty, old buildings downtown, the Mexican restaurant Chaska My Love, the plaza near the library and lots of other things!

"The Big Lebowski" is a

"The Big Lebowski" is a movie I can watch over and over again and laugh at a new line every time. My favorite part is always changing.

My current favorite is when The Dude (Jeff Bridges) storms out of a diner after Walter (John Goodman) causes a scene with yet another tirade about having defended the freedom of America in Vietnam. Then Walter stubbornly refuses to leave, despite the fact that the waitress and every customer is now glaring at him: "Hey, Dude, don't go away, man. Come on, this affects all of us, man. Our basic freedoms! I'm staying. I'm finishing my coffee. Enjoying my coffee."

"Tommy Boy" is another of my favorites. I just think it's so dang funny -- when Chris Farley sings 'fat guy in a little coat' -- the 'dead' deer that springs to life in the car -- Farley setting a client's toy car aflame -- David Spade getting caught romancing himself. It's not art, just entertainment, and it cracks me up.

Absolutely! Charlie ranks

Absolutely! Charlie ranks right up there with "The Wizard of Oz." When we were younger, my sister and I never budged from in front of the TV when Dorothy and friends were on -- it was even better when we got a color television and realized the shift that occurred from reality to dreamland.

Nowadays, although I still love Charlie and Dorothy, "Dirty Dancing" and "Pretty Woman" are two of my favorites and my daughter and I have watched "Coyote Ugly" multiple times, as well. And, I can't explain it, but I have watched "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" many times and laughed and laughed every time. My husband and daughter both hate that movie and don't see why I like it so much -- although my husband did spring for the DVD for my birthday a couple years ago.

"Charlie and the Chocolate

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." The original movie, not the creepy one with Johnny Depp. I could watch 'Charlie' over and over again because the story is so touching -- rags to riches -- and the scenery and fantastical inventions are so delightful -- Oompa Loompas, streams running with chocolate and trees that sprout candy!

I look at e-mail once in

I look at e-mail once in awhile but otherwise I totally check out from work. Taking a vacation reminds me that the company can survive without me, and I can survive without it. Temporarily cutting the apron strings to the office also gives other people the chance to appreciate all that I do!

i've been debating on this

i've been debating on this question over and over in my mind lately. because while i find scrapbook layouts really pretty, it is so derivative. the people who design the scrapbook kits - i think they are the artists, the scrapbookers, although there are elements of composition, color and texture involved, and even some writing skills - i say, not so much. i disagree with j-town knitter when she said that she considers it an art because it has a "from scratch" element to it - if a scrapbooker uses a kit, then the effort was merely in choosing the nicest combination of papers and embellishments that another person made - and make it into an expression. it is not from scratch at all. similarly, a nicely dressed person who chose the right combination of clothes that flatter her figure or express herself - is not an artist, either.

I've never heard her playing the music, but my neighbor likes Korn and and Disturbed and some other groups that I would not have guessed to be "her type." She and my daughter were able to discuss music while I listened like they were speaking a foreign language.

Doesn't make me like her any less but does make me offer to drive whenever we go anywhere so I can listen to my country music or my Frank Sinatra.

Donkey or elephant, I don't

Donkey or elephant, I don't care which you identify with. But I have to admit I'm sort of swayed by a person's taste in music. I'm always surprised when I learn someone likes modern country music, which I don't. It's no big deal but ... it sort of makes me wonder.

I'm with that other guy about not knowing what I'm doing -- this anonymous is me. Having a comment box available without logging in apparently threw me off (and logging in means I don't have to type in the secret word). Lesson learned.

Yeah, played the baritone

Yeah, played the baritone horn. "Played" meaning I worked just hard enough to perform the music without any actual at-home practicing. And yet this experience took me to such exotic places as Brandon, Manitoba, which at the time was only accessible by dirt road, I believe. And then there was the Glenwood, Minn. parade where the weather was so hot that marching band members were passing out. Good times.

I played the saxophone in my school's High School band in North Dakota. One of the highlights of our band's career was marching in a parade in Fargo. We all wore white pants and green sweaters. On purpose.
