It seems that even when the big four networks are scraping the bottom for programming, they still have no patience.
The latest one-and-done casualty was the internet-spawned "Quarterlife". Sure, I missed its only airing on NBC last Tuesday but was curious why it got axed due to mediocre ratings (the lowest in its time slot in 17 years).
My curiosity got the best of me Monday evening and I watched a couple eight-minute segments (YouTube has what I assume is the entire series) and was dumbfounded. Sure, it's not an action series and it is rather devoid of comedy but it is from the guys who birthed "Thirtysomething" so credibility is not what they are lacking.
To sum the show up, it is about a group of twenty-somethings. They all have jobs and live outside of their respective parents' basements so you can discard those stereotypes. The only failing of the series is that it seems to be rather specific in its demographic. Let's face it, the only age group that cares about twenty-somethings are twenty-somethings and I have a sneaking suspicion that they have better things to do than watch a show that eerily echoes their own lives.
Based solely on the first two webisodes I have watched it doesn't deserve the criticism it is getting. It is entirely watchable and given its original eight minute webisode format it has little if any filler material. In short I recommend it. Sure, you can't watch it on NBC but they generously handed the repurposed episodes over to cable outlet Bravo. I can't say when they'll be shown because I can watch them on my own time on the very iMac I am typing this on. I love this whole "TV on my terms" thing!

Do you need a fast Internet connection to watch TV online? I've watched a few episodes of CSI Miami and they were really choppy. I'm apprehensive about posting videos on this Web site because I know it's irritating if they don't download and play quickly.
MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Actually, both my husband and I have been watching the free showing of the first season on DirecTV. They played every episode from the first season, and now we're hooked.
So I convinced Jeff to call DirecTV and see if we could get three months of free Showtime just so we could watch the second season, which starts March 30. I don't know how he does it, but he always succeeds on such endeavors, and we're all set up to enjoy, free!
This is a great series. Church scandals, sex, relatively mild violence, the Plague, Jonathan Rhys Meyers in various stages of undress...(don't worry, men, there's plenty for you to enjoy, too - remember, Henry was a ladies man and always had some hot women around).
Melissa, The network sites that replay their shows seems terribly choppy even when I had top tier high speed cable internet access. YouTube stuff works fine for the most part even on my downgraded poor man's cable internet access.
The Tudors sounds like an interesting show. It pains me that the pay movie channels can produce better TV than the networks who are supposed to be good at that.
Having said that, has anyone watched "Weeds" on Showtime? That's one I wish would make the jump to CBS too.

I just realized last night that I was watching The Tudors on Channel 101, not Showtime. Can your husband get free Showtime for me:) I think there's a deal going on for $20 or $25 off. I haven't seen Weeds because I don't think I get that channel. But I have been watching Breaking Bad on AMC (Oh, how I love Mad Men) and Dexter on Showtime. (The first season is being shown on CBS). Both shows are morally ambiguous. The first features a chemistry teacher with cancer who cooks meth to save money for the family he expects to leave behind. The latter stars a lovable serial killer (Michael C. Hall from Six Feet Under) who works for the police department. The audience roots for him because he only kills bad people. Hmmm.

So, did anyone catch the season finale of "The Tudors" last night? Poor Anne. As witchy as she could be, she really didn't deserve to lose her head.
