Is it merely a plague of single people who consistently, nay, annually bemoan February 14th as a bigger non-holiday than Halloween? Or perhaps it is something more. In any case I have heard of quite a few folks out there who are putting on Anti-Valentine's Day parties for those of us who are without a significant other (yes, me included).
My roommate is throwing such a party and initially I wasn't going to attend. Now it seems as though it might be a fun exercise in quasi-misery of hopeless romantics whose relationship status seems to be just that- hopeless.
What makes it worse is that Valentine's Day is on a Thursday. Smack dab in the middle of a work week. What this means is that many couples out there (as well as restaurants) are making plans for Friday night- thus extending the torture for all of us.
Besides my roommate's party (I'm attending also because it is in our apartment) I am doing nothing. What are you readers doing? Anything? Nothing? I promise to not instantly despise you for having a good life and a loving relationship. I promise. Maybe.

I'm making tater tot hot dish, giving my son a bath and watching "Lost". I'm pretty excited about my evening - I think it's going to be a pretty great Valentine's Day.
Nothing. To me it's alot of hype and a drain on already strained finances for alot of people. Romance doesn't and shouldn't have a dollar value. Maybe the best idea is to bake your significant other a cake or something.
Well, VD is a lot of hype, and I agree with Brian -- we should treat our SO nice all the time and maybe extra special here and there, as opposed to one special day.

I returned home from a nutrition and exercise class on Valentine's Day to a yummy dinner prepared by my husband: Shrimp c ocktail, Chicken in a Love Nest (chicken breast, brie and sauteed onions and mushrooms wrapped in a pastry dough and baked), fresh asparagus with toasted almonds and fresh berries (straw, blue and rasp) over angel food cake.
I got him a card -- two actually, one from me and one from the dogs ;-)
