St. Paul Bouncing GirlsWant to fly through the air during the St. Paul Winter Carnival? Become a Bouncing Girl! The St. Paul Bouncing Team is holding tryouts at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at Landmark Center in St. Paul. Sign in is at 6:30 p.m.
Each year, three official Bouncing Girls serve three-year terms. Supporting them is one alternate who serves for the current year only. Bouncing Girls are selected through an annual, entertaining public tryout process.
Tryout guidelines are specific, so please consider the following:
• Age: All candidates must be 21 years of age or older.
• Dress: Athletic wear is recommended, including tennis shoes and flexible clothing.
• Experience: No prerequisite experience is needed, and practice bounces are allowed.
• Height/Weight: There are no restrictions, but the lighter she is, the higher she flies; aerialists typically
weigh less than 115 pounds.
• Judging: Candidates are judged on altitude, poise, control, and, most importantly, enthusiasm.
The 2008 Bouncing Girl will be chosen on the evening of tryouts and will be featured in the St. Paul Winter Carnival Torchlight Parade on Saturday, Feb. 2. Spectators are welcome! The new Bouncing Girl should expect to perform in 10 to 12 events each year over the next three years.
During tryouts, the team is also looking for pullers, the group of men that shoot the Bouncing Girls to the moon.
The St. Paul Bouncing Team has been entertaining crowds for more than
120 years. "Bouncing" is the oldest St. Paul Winter Carnival event and has been featured in most
every St. Paul Winter Carnival since its inception in 1886. www.stpaulbouncingteam.org
