There isn’t a better time of year for “National Ice Cream Month” than July. It’s hot; it's humid; and let's face it ice cream is, a cure for the summer-time blues.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as “National Ice Cream Month.” Reagan must have really loved ice cream or had some stock in Ben and Jerry’s because he also designated the third Sunday in July as “National Ice Cream Day.”

According to idfa.org, Reagan recognized ice cream as a fun and nutritious food that is enjoyed by a full 90 percent of the nation’s population.

This year, national ice cream day will be July 15.

According to idfa.org, the U.S. ice cream industry generates more than $21 billion in annual sales and provides thousands of jobs. About nine percent of all the milk produced by U.S. dairy farmers is used to produce ice cream.
